We like books you can sing with babies and toddlers. This metallic covered cardboard book is sturdy enough for repeated sharing and little hands that will want to turn the pages with independence. The familiar Rain, Rain Go Way rhyme needs no introduction to grownups and children alike. 1 & up

Once again Jane Cabrera takes a familiar nursery song/rhyme and infuses it with her colorful illustrations that give it a new life. In this singable book every double page spread features a parent and child animal pair under the moon and starry night. She takes little ones to the forest, under the sea, to the faraway Arctic, the grassy plains, over the mountains, and into the jungle. The text does not labor the locale nor the names of the creatures. Filling in that info is something adults can gradually add as they look with their little listeners at the illustrations and name the pairs and places.

Charming illustrations accompany the familiar lullaby, Hush Little Baby, but the verses here are not the usual. If you know the original words for forever, you may have trouble accepting this newly minted version, but in a sense they give both mama and papa, the singing parents some freedom to make up more new verses that are tailor made for their own little one. This is sort of close to the familiar and though some of the rhymes are only near rhymes, it works. Fair warning--if you do not like variations on old classics, skip this. 0-2

This is not your nursery school teacher's wheels on the bus. Not at all! Jane Cabrera has moved the bus to Africa and put wonderfully colorful wild creatures on board the bus who travel "All Day Long." She starts with lion with a bold yellow and orange mane who roars, roars, roars, all day long. Next come the bold pink flamingos who flap, flap, flap. Then there's a hungry Zebra who just comps, chomps, chomps. You get the idea. As always, Cabrera takes a familiar song and gives it a new look and a new life! So appealing. A new book with a new version of an old song--a book to sing!

This is not your Kindergarten teacher's Mulberry Bush song, but you can bet kindergarten teachers and preschool teachers and parents will be singing this new version. From the moment they wake until the time they go to sleep, Jane Cabrera follows two little pups through the day. Sung to the original melody, this has a repetitive refrain that kids can sing along with you as they enjoy the lively illustrations. 2-5

Jane Cabrera put her own special touch to this classic song that kids love to sing with plenty of actions. Cabrera added a cast of friendly little animals and their sounds or motions that blend with this wonderfully repetitive song. It's easy to learn, easy to play, and for older siblings, it may even be easy to read. This was on our list a few years ago, and we're glad to see it back in print in a cardboard version that will withstand all the singing and solo reading it will get.
