) With it's long grey trunk and short legs, this cuddly velour elephant looks like it stepped out of a storybook. In fact it is based on illustrations from the book Monkey See, Money Draw by artist/writer, Alex Beard. With stitched features, this is safe enough for all ages. It feels about he right size for a toddler since it is 20 inches big but light and easy to grab.

) The ultimate in relaxed plush! Under-stuffed at the middle, these animals flop over and are made of extremely soft fabric. Our favorites: Libby Yellow Lab and Lucky Black Lab. If your child is asking for a dog, but you're not ready, these pretend pups may do the trick. For an even larger hug, Supersized Flip Flops ($45 each). Our favorite: Mickey Monkey. Age: Preschool. ) Choose either the handsome 21" traditional plush Emperor Chick($40) that looks half grown or the 13” Emperor Penguin Chick ($20) that has downy like plush with a recently hatch look. Either are an adorable armful and a welcome huggable for the very current penguin craze. Age: Preschool,Early School Years. Award Year: 2007.

Our testers couldn't put down either the very sweet honey-colored dog Higgins (Mary Meyer 8" & 12") with big floppy ears and soft huggable body, or Yardley Jr. (Gund), which is larger in scale—an armful with big floppy honey-colored ears and two-toned white-and-honey body, this darling silky plush pooch has a dark brown velour snout and black beady eyes.
