2000 Award
Winnie the Pooh Series
(Disney $12.99 Score:) In the past we have recommended this series as "kinder and gentler animated cartoons than most of Saturday morning fare." Unfortunately, all recent Pooh videos have gone in another direction with story lines that are too intense for young viewers. For example, in Tigger-ific Tales, Tigger's so-called friends give him a bath and his stripes disappear-for preschoolers who typically worry about body integrity, this video is developmentally inappropriate. We still recommend the original videos: A Blustery Day and The Honey Tree. Closed-captioned. 2 & up.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2000.

Cleared For Takeoff
(Fred Levine Productions $14.95 Score:) Fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a fast-paced look at commercial aviation that follows a mother and three kids on a trip from start to finish. Interesting information and film footage takes kids behind the scenes at the airport. From the maker of the granddaddy of construction videos, Road and House Construction Ahead. 2 1/2 & up.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 1996.

1994 Awards
Doing Things
(Bo Peep Productions $14.95 Score:) Every video library should have Doing Things! With almost no talking or cutesy narrative, we watch kids and familiar barnyard animals go through the routines of the day-eating, washing, and playing. There's something new to see each time you watch. The cast of kids is multiethnic and the music is fun but not too intrusive. Doing Things leaves the talking to you and your kids. 2 & up.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 1994.

2001 Awards
Video Soup Mozart Nature Symphonies
(em-bry-on-ics $14.95 Score:) Disregard the "12 month & up" label. There's much to speak about as the sound track plays real, nonsynthesized Mozart that is perfectly in sync with breathtaking film clips of wildlife underwater, in the sky, from the North Pole to the South, and all points in between! Watch it together or play the music for its own sake. Trust us-it's a winner! 2 & up, up, up!

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2001.

1999 Awards
Big Bird Gets Lost
(Sony $12.95 Score:) In the newest of Sesame Street's Kids Guide to Life series, Maria takes Big Bird shopping. The bad news is that Big Bird gets lost; the good news is that Maria has taught Big Bird and viewers a catchy song for remembering their phone number as well as how to find help in the store. A non-threatening but valuable video with guest star Frances McDormand. 3-7

2002 Award
Kipper Tiger Tales
(Lyrick Studios $9.98 Score:) The original Kipper video received a Platinum Award in 2000. Like Mark Inkpen's storybooks featuring Kipper the dog, each little vignette has a small adventure without the all-too-typical terrifying drama that has marked so much of today's video for the very young. This year's Kipper Tiger Tales only rates a four - it features his know-it-all pal Tiger; more preschoolish than the original. We found Pools, Parks and Picnic (two stars) way too slow - it made both toddler and adult viewers ready for naptime!

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2002.
