) Karen Katz's award-winning classic is re-issued in an oversized 10th anniversary edition and it's even better than the original. The lift-the-flaps book has a cast of multicultural babies doing what babies do. One hides under a hat until you lift the hat flap and see baby's eyes. Another's mouth is covered till you pull the cup flap. Baby lifts her shirt and there it is--her belly button. This sturdy picture book is printed on sturdy cardboard and will withstand encore readings. It's also short and a lot like games you play to help baby learn the names of body parts. Karen Katz's use of vibrant colors and happy looking babies will make this a favorite book you will need to read again and again! 9 months & up.

) Infants will be visually attracted to the bold black and white single images that alternate with the slick feeling ones in color. This may eventually become a knowing, naming and touching book, but for the youngest lapsitter, it is a gazing book. Unlike earlier black and white graphic books with targets and faces and other eye catching images, this one has less high contrast patterns. The items chosen for illustration are also less familiar, i.e. a swan, rhino, camel. They are a little on the abstract side for babies. Still they may hold more visual interest and the satin touch of the forms on the page are sure to interest little hands.

) A fabric book with a cottony ball sitting in a wagon that is attached with a ribbon. You can put the ball into, behind, through, and under the many spots provided in this little book. Baby will have fun finding the ball in all the hiding places. Good for peek-a-boo discoveries as you turn the colorful fabric pages. This is safe enough for baby to explore after you have 'read' from front to back.

) A cute fabric book with interesting textures for touchy-feelie explorations and peek-a-boo discoveries hidden behind a pull down satiny lily pad, green felt grass, grey cotton “rock, green satin leaf, blue shimmery “water” and colorful butterfly wings. There’s lots to talk about, touch and find in this little book for lapsitters.

Not much story here, but the art is charming and the concepts are warm and fuzzy. ) Babies all over the world are carried about. Told in simple verse this catalogs with handsome color photos parents and babies being carried in blankets, baskets, and backpacks, among others. A glossary shows the countries and photos from the book. Though the geography is well beyond the intended audience this is a beautiful multicultural book that is printed on sturdy cardboard stock that little children can enjoy independently once you have shared it with them. Babies do love looking at other babies and these are exceptionally colorful photographs and lovely to look at!
