2010 Awards
Wimmer-Ferguson Nursery Novel
(Manhattan Toy $14.99 Score:)

Like a fabric activity book with lift up flaps and peek a boo surprises, this can be used as a long panel that you can tie on to the side of the changing table or look at it together flat on the floor for tummy time. You can also turn the "accordion" pages and enjoy the images while baby is in your lap. Done with high contrast black and white images, the illustrations are eye appealing for very young babies who are especially attracted to faces, targets and bold graphics. There are also ribbons to touch, crinkle noises to touch and a safety mirror for seeing their own little hands and face. So, this is a toy loaded with sensory learning possibilities. A parent intensive lap toy for the early weeks and beyond.

Eric Carle Activity Dome
(Kids Preferred $20 Score:)

This is a fabric dome with a mirror and some peek-a-boo activities. Although it is an attractive large fabric toy for the floor, we feel there is not a lot for babies to do with it, whether they are sitting up or still lying down.  There's nothing really wrong with it...but there's nothing really right, either. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab. 2006 Award
Razzy Rattles
(Mary Meyer $4.5 Score:) Choose a very quiet floppy little red pig, green turtle, blue elephant, or yellow lion in washable terry with gingham trim and stitched features. Also, See Me? Rattles ($4.50 ) are all-fabric, easy-to-hold shakers with happy faces and a quiet jingle. A nice toy for older sibs to use with baby. A “mirror” on the back of the rattle face is distorted, but not to worry, baby is going to be attracted to the patterns and stitched face and big brother’s antics. (800) 451-4387.
