2004 Awards
Finding Nemo Read-along
(Disney $9.98 Score:) This CD/book set of this year’s runaway hit would make a great take-along choice for early school-age kids who have enjoyed the movie. Revisiting a story you already know builds confidence and can often engage a reluctant reader. Kids can read along in the 72-page book that follows the story of Nemo’s dad as he travels the Great Barrier Reef to rescue his son from a dentist’s fish tank in Sydney.

Age: Early School Years. Award Year: 2004.

Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Tape Recorder with Voice Warp
(Fisher-Price $34.99 Score:) The classic Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Tape Recorder with Voice Warp did not get great feedback as a result of the new warping feature. Testers liked the sturdy quality of the machine but complained that the warping voices (monster, robot, alien, bunny) did not work well and detracted from the product. This product was being redesigned as we went to press.

Age: Preschool,Early School Years,Later School Years. Award Year: .

2005 Award
Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Stereo CD Player
(Kid Design $59.99 Score:) Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Stereo CD Player is a hefty player with safety lock that young kids can't open independently. Sound quality is very good and has a sing-along detachable microphone (you need to put your mouth on it to make it work best) and volume limiter. Adaptor is not included. 4 and up. Also available, the same basic machine but with a Barbie Motif. The Barbie Sing with Me CD Player ($59.99 ) has the same sturdy barrel shape with excellent sound quality. Also comes with plug-in mike and CD—we tested it with James Taylor and it's fine. 4 and up. (888) TOP-TOYS.

Age: Preschool,Early School Years. Award Year: 2005.

2005 Award
Disney Personal CD Player with Digital AM/FM Tuner
(Disney $49.99 Score:) Disney Personal CD Player with Digital AM/FM Tuner is a good choice for a first CD player, and comes in either the classic Disney red or with a princess motif. The Boombox ($49.99) from this line has a nice sound quality but the play buttons are not very clear. Hands down the best product in Disney's line is the Motorola Disney Classic Cordless Phone ($49.99), which combines Motorola quality with the spirit of Disney (when the phone rings it plays the theme from Mickey Mouse).

Age: Preschool,Early School Years. Award Year: 2005.
