Carnival of the Animals
(adapted and narrated by John Lithgow/illus. by Bor, Simon & Schuster $17.95 Score:) Lithgow wrote and narrated a story that was inspired by Camille Saint-SaŽns' composition. (It was performed by the New York City Ballet.) The included CD is a recording performed by Chamber Music Los Angeles. Lithgow is always enjoyable to listen to and Kulikov's illustrations are engagingóbut it will be a hard sell to your average 8 year old.

(Listening Library $25 Score:) Blair Brown brings many voices to Lois Lowry's suspenseful novel set in Denmark during WWII when the Danish resistance protected their Jewish neighbors and managed to smuggle them out of the country to Sweden. Lowry tells this chapter in history through the friendship of two ten year oldsóone who must leave, and the other who is forced to find courage inthe face of true danger. 9 and up.

Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Tape Recorder with Voice Warp
(Fisher-Price $34.99 Score:) The classic Fisher-Price Tuff Stuff Tape Recorder with Voice Warp did not get great feedback as a result of the new warping feature. Testers liked the sturdy quality of the machine but complained that the warping voices (monster, robot, alien, bunny) did not work well and detracted from the product. This product was being redesigned as we went to press.
