2009 Award
Peek Squeak Lion and Dog
(Manhattan Toy $16 Score:)

Loop this green, yellow and blue dandy lion on the crib or carriage. It has lots of textures to feel in the petal shaped mane, ribbons around a mirror on the tummy, a squeak in one leg and rattle in the other. There is a chewy teether on one arm and a peek a boo sunshine on the other. This is a jolly looking and snuggly feeling huggable. Also special and somewhat bigger, the Peek Squeak Dog ($25 4.5)  done in blues and greens with a cord front and pocket for his bone. Like the lion there are lots of different activities to explore, but this cannot be hung up, it sits on its broad bottom. 9 months and up. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.

2009 Award
Baby Deglingos Dog, Rabbit, Hedgehog & Cow
(All New Materials $19.95 Score:)

These unstuffed lovies are made of soft wide wale corduroy and calico with heads and little legs done up in the shapes of a dog, cow, hedgehog and rabbit. We are passing on the animals with a lot of fuzzy trim since we expect these will be mouthed.  We wish these had openings in the bottom for puppets. However they can be used for tracking and are likely to become a touchy- feely comfort toys for babies. They look like toys one would find at a craft fair—very folksie.
