Ribbon and Felt Tote
(Creativity for Kids $15.99 Score:) This wonderful hassle-free, no-mess craft kit features a pink cotton tote bag that is decorated with stick-on cutout shapes and a striped ribbon that trims the top by simply threading it through like a belt. This would have been a Platinum winner had it arrived earlier. Big enough to hold a small book and other treasures, this is an art project that will be worn with pride. No sewing or glue required. 6 & up.

2006 Award
Robosapien V2
(WowWee $250 Score:) Last year's Robosapien was a hit with our testers...but now he is an even bigger hit, literally! The V2 stands almost a head taller and able to do more stunts than his earlier self. He's a more powerful robot that kids can program with even more motions. While you can make something happen by just pushing a button, we liked the fact that kids really have to work to get the Robosapien V2 to do all of his tricks–--requires kids to stay with it!

Age: Later School Years. Award Year: 2006.

2007 Award
Amazing Baby Developmental Light Up Musical
(Kids Preferred $20 Score:) Hang this in the crib or take it along for overnights at Grandma’s. A star-shaped musical in bold colorful patterns, it has a pull-down action that triggers an old-fashioned music box sound. A baby face lift-up flap covers a small Mylar mirror for peek-a-boo sightings. Small lights twinkle under the fabric and the music plays long enough to soothe a baby to sleep. Has a very contemporary look.

Taf Toys 2 in 1 Smart Gym
(Edushape $69.95 Score:) Like last year’s Smart Mat, this is an oversized playmat with a gym in the middle! 39 x 59, with many textures, colors, and patterns, this has arches that connect securely to hold dangly toys that jitter, ring, and play music. Ideal for gazing at, batting, and kicking, and for multiple discoveries. The huge mat itself has built-in mirror, squeakers, and rattling rings. In contrast to the ActiviTot, these arches are not easy to set up, but they work well once you’ve done it. Our family with triples still raves about the original mat (sans arches) that is ten dollars less. (800) 404-4744.

Gummy Guppy
(Sassy $2.99 Score:) Large enough to be safe, this multicolored fish-shaped teether has interesting textures and bends slightly for two-handed investigations. (800) 323-6336.

Age: Infants. Award Year: 2007.

2007 Awards
NooBoo Symphonic Stacker
(Manhattan Toy $29.95 Score:) We tested a lot of fabric stackers this year but most were unforgiving—they didn’t move easily on the post. These pleasingly soft patterned, textured, easy-to-grasp rings (they look almost like flowers) are fun to explore—they also activate “magical” sounds when stacked (although they don’t always work 100% of the time). A good parent/child toy. (800) 541-1345.

Age: Infants. Award Year: 2007.

2007 Awards
Amazing Baby Developmental Blanket Teether
(Kids Preferred $11 Score:) One of our favorite new toys of the year. Not really a blanket, this is about 12" of flat bear with crinkle body. It has chewy teether hands, easy-to-grab rings on its feet, and interesting patterns on its patchwork body. A variety of textures include plush head, satin foot, and velvety velour back. Likely to get a lot of touching moments. (866) 763- 8869.

Age: Infants. Award Year: 2007.

2007 Awards
Amazing Baby Developmental Duck
(Kids Preferred $12 Score:) For starters, use this as a dangly gazing toy to hang in baby carrier. Pull down and the duck jiggles, press and it squeaks. Older babies will like chomping on duck’s chewy teether “feet” that slide back and forth in its vibrantly patterned body with licks of black and white stripes. Also fun, Developmental Butterfly ($12); lots for eyes and hands to explore on this gaily patterned butterfly with crinkle-sounds wings, squeaky body, and many textures. A good take-along stroller toy. (866) 763-8869.

Age: Infants. Award Year: 2007.

Penguin Bowling
(Infantino $19.99 Score:) Cheerful and colorfully attired penguins are numbered and ready to be knocked down. Our parent testers had some difficulty getting the penguins to stand up before their kids lost interest in bowling. “Throwing” the penguins quckly became the name of the game. (800) 840-4916.

Age: Toddlers. Award Year: 2007.

2007 Awards
Triple Track Tower
(Playskool $14.95 Score:) Three little cars race down three parallel tracks that are like a giant slide. They can roll free, or be operated with the push of a button that also gives the sound effects of speeding vehicles. Kids can also turn the lever and stop them at the bottom. Good for repetitive action and dramatic play. Since the slides go straight down there is less tracking, or interest, than the typical ball runs with twist-and-turn action. 2 & up. (800) 327-8264.

Age: Toddlers. Award Year: 2007.
