2009 Award
Smushy Monkey
(North American Bear Co. $17 Score:)

Irresistibly huggable 22” sand colored monkey with velvety snout, ears and paws. Slightly under stuffed this is covered in a plush that is both short and long so that it feels super soft and looks unusual in a positive way. Smushy’s features are stitched and he sports a peach ribbon. The long arms, legs and tail make this a perfect choice for toddlers who prefer their huggables big enough to fill their arms…yet need them to be light enough for easy lugging about. Although the neck ribbon is stitched on the manufacturer’s tag says to remove the ribbon before giving the monkey to a small child. Also available in 14” size for $17. 2 & up. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.

2005 Awards
Potty Elmo
(Fisher-Price $19 Score:) In the novelty doll category, Potty Elmo is amazing. Give Elmo his sippy cup and youíll hear him drink; if you donít get him to the potty, he says, "Oops, Elmo didnít get to the potty. Accidents happen," and if he makes it, "Elmo can do it and so can you!" One of the best and most polite interactive dolls weíve ever tested. We pass on Zapf Creationsí Baby Born ($39.99) who got low marks from our testers because they had difficulty getting the pretend poop out (no joke).

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2005.

Babipouce
(Corolle $29 Score:) Older babies are fascinated by dolls that look like real babies. The trick is to find dolls that are washable and safe enough for them to handle. Corolle has an assortment of dolls with all-fabric velour rompers in various colors and soft vinyl painted faces. Our favorites this season: Puppet Blue, with a tri-knottie hat, or Puppet Raspberry, that is easy to grap with an un-stuffed body, or Miss Grenadine with a bright red romper.
