2001 Award
Works: Fabulous Foods
(Sony $12.95 Score:) The best title in this "Work" series looks at familiar products and how they are made. Here, learn how apple juice, yogurt, bread, blueberries, and pasta are made. Footage of cows being milked and blueberries being cleaned and sorted fascinated our testers. In My House looks at flowers, mail service, and how bricks, baskets, and pottery are made. Narrated by kids who wear a "magic" hat, these are pretty straightforward-not incredibly compelling, but informative for "how do they do that?" curiosity. Fun and Games was a disappointingly slow look at how crayons and toys are made. Will be enjoyed by the next age group. 4-9

Age: Preschool,Early School Years,Later School Years. Award Year: 2001.

2001 Awards
Video Soup Mozart Nature Symphonies
(em-bry-on-ics $14.95 Score:) Disregard the "12 month & up" label. There's much to speak about as the sound track plays real, nonsynthesized Mozart that is perfectly in sync with breathtaking film clips of wildlife underwater, in the sky, from the North Pole to the South, and all points in between! Watch it together or play the music for its own sake. Trust us-it's a winner! 2 & up, up, up!

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 2001.

1994 Awards
Doing Things
(Bo Peep Productions $14.95 Score:) Every video library should have Doing Things! With almost no talking or cutesy narrative, we watch kids and familiar barnyard animals go through the routines of the day-eating, washing, and playing. There's something new to see each time you watch. The cast of kids is multiethnic and the music is fun but not too intrusive. Doing Things leaves the talking to you and your kids. 2 & up.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool. Award Year: 1994.
