2006 Award
Big Spunky
(Gund $59.99 Score:) Older toddlers love big dolls to lug about and flop down on from time to time. The trick is to find something large but light enough for these little ones. Big Spunky fills the order. He’s 22" big and available in blue or pink soft plush with patches of white and stitched features for safety’s sake. This is what you call a real armful that will get a lot of loving! For smaller but great choices, consider colorful 11" Tutti Frutti ($20 ) elephant, monkey, or cat, or the classic all-time favoite, Snuffles, a BLUE CHIP bear ($12 and $20 ). (800) 448-4863.

Age: Toddlers. Award Year: 2006.

2009 Award
Lubies
(Rocket USA $9.99 Score:) A collection of witty plush balls in the shapes of a variety of animals. They are marketed to school aged kids, but we’re willing to bet preschoolers are going to want them, too. These really cute ball shaped dolls are not just great collectables. We’re sure kids will use them as soft balls to toss about indoors. They might even inspire some pretend/story telling. They say they are safe for all ages but they are targeted for 7 & up. We’d say 3’s and up will love them. The company has signed a verification form complying with our safety requirements. We did not independently test this toy in a lab.

Age: Toddlers,Preschool,Early School Years. Award Year: 2009.
