2007 Award
MOMMY?
( by Maurice Sendak, Arthur Yorinks, Matthew Reinhar, Scholastic $25 Score: ) Sendak has taken a classic theme—the search for a missing mother—and transformed it into a zany one-word pop-up joke. Not for the timid, this pops from one page to the next with a boy who looks a lot like Max asking for “Mommy?” From one page to the next, classic monsters such as Frankenstein and Dracula pop off the pages. When Mommy finally pops out of the closet, we think the joke will be lost on anyone under the age of 7 & up.

Age: Early School Years. Award Year: 2007.
