A fascinating non-fiction book about things you might never expect about many wild animals. Although few kids would be likely to pet a platypus(it has venomous spurs on its hind legs) or pick up a cone shell(it has poisonous barbs) these are a collection of strange factoids kids like to read about. The handsome art adds to the pleasure, but it’s the weirdness of the hidden dangers that is more likely to interest young readers. 8 & up.
