Yoko's grandparents send her a very special doll all the way from their home in Japan to celebrate the Japanese holiday, Girl's Day. Yoko is so thrilled with the gift, she wants to take it to school for show and tell. Although her mother tells her the doll is too delicate, Yoko sneaks the doll out in her backpack. Just like the other books about Yoko, this is a tender story with a gentle little lesson. As always the art is a feast for the eyes. Wells uses layers of textures and patterns to decorate the clothing and furnishings in Yoko's world. The intricate details in the kimonos will remind children who have done origami of the beautifully patterned papers for that art form. 4-7
