2010 Award
The Easter Egg
(by Jan Brett, Putnam $17.99 Score: )

Hoppi rabbit is in awe of all the eggs others are making. Every year the rabbits compete to make the most unusual Easter egg. The one who makes the winning egg gets to hide the Easter eggs with the Easter Rabbit. While Hoppi is trying to decide what kind of egg to make a robin egg falls from a tree and Hoppi knows that he must keep the egg warm and protected until it hatches. He does this knowing he will not have time to make an egg for the contest. A charming story that speaks to caring about others. As always, Jan Brett's art and story are memorable.

2009 Award
Duck! Rabbit!
(by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld, Chronicle $16.99 Score: )

Good fun here with an optical illusion that goes from duck to rabbitódepending on how you look at it. This is both a funny idea and one that also introduces a big idea about the eye of the beholder. It starts out as a funny little argument and ends on the possibility that otherís point of view just might be true. A big idea! 3 & up.

Age: Preschool, Early School Years. Award Year: 2009. Click here to purchase the product on Amazon.com.
