Treasury of Classic Bedtime Stories(
Scholastic $29.95 Score:

)
A collection of 4 DVDs, each with at least six picture books that are well worth sharing. Some have full animation, others are less so, but all use the original picture book art by some of the best loved illustrators in the children's book world. This collection includes the Good Night, Gorilla, Mike Mulligan, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Curious George Rides a Bike plus several stories retold in Spanish. These videos are narrated by such well-known performers as James Earl Jones, Mia Farrow, Anthony Edwards, and others. We've given awards to most of the DVDs in this Treasury. Now they are gathered together in a larger collection and you can use this library as a resource and an excellent alternative to TV. Use them before bed or any time that a storybook break is needed. There are so many good choices here, you can dole them out as a treat for any time of the day. For readers there is a read-along feature that may help children develop eye sweep, reading with expression, as well as vocabulary. The collection is marked 3-9. We think some of the stories will be best suited for school aged viewers, but surely some will be a good fit for preschoolers
