Important Advisory:

We are now requiring companies to provide us with documentation that their products have been tested by an independent lab for phthalates and lead.
Please click here for submission requirements for new products. However, as we are not a lab, we will not be independently verifying those results. Also, with the exception of the 2008 Platinum Toy Awards, toys submitted for review prior to January 2008 were not tested for lead.

The Art of Giving

As the holidays approach, most parents also want to teach their kids that giving to others is also part of the season. With some planning giving can be as much fun as receiving. You don't need to be a dedicated crafts person or have hours of free time to do this - many innovative kits come with all the materials and directions to walk you through.

Giving the Gift of Time
We're all so busy that why not give a clock or timepiece to someone special. We look for projects that will appeal to both boys and girls these three "gifts of time" are gender-free projects. The clocks would make nice gifts for a parent's office desk or a grandparent, and the watch would be perfect for a sibling.

  Good Morning Alarm Clock

( Creativity for Kids $$14$ ) A handsome translucent alarm clock that is ready to be decorated with special paints and stick-on gems. This is a really gender-free craft item that boys are sure to design quite differently than girls. But that's one of its charms. It's open-ended but once completed it's a functional clock that can be used in a child's room or given as a gift. This runs on a single AA battery and will wake them with a gentle beep. Arrived too late for the 2003 book but is bound to be a good choice for school aged kids. Age: Early School Years, Late School Years. Phone: 800-311-8684. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award 2003

  Jewel Time Watch Activity Kit

( Alex $$13$ ) School-aged kids love making things that they can use, and this kit certainly delivers. The plastic watch comes on a hot pink band and has a flower face with the 12, 3, 6, and 9 marked. The kit includes some very small rhinestone strips that are added to the band and face of the watch. Our tester wrote "I like the watch because I like the sparkling stones." The kit took about 30 minutes to complete. A nice gift to make for a sister. Also a big hit as a birthday party gift. 7 & up. Age: Late School Years. Phone: 800-666-ALEX. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award 2003

  My Keepsake Clock Kit

( Balitono $$17$ ) Our tester couldn't wait to get started painting this keepsake clock kit that comes with a round quartz clock that sits in the 7" x 4" wooden case. Comes with a small drawer beneath the clock for small treasures. Included in the kit: sandpaper, paint, varnish, two paintbrushes and a painting guide and stencil design. Would make a great present for a child to give (they will probably want one of their own too!). Well made and very special. Also recommended, Best Friends Frame Kit and Keepsake Chest.SNAP AWARD: THis is good looking finished product that needs to be painted in any way your young artist desires. So, it's got a finished look and feel with an open-ended agenda. Makes a great gift for child to give to a teacher or grandparent. Age: Late School Years, Tweens. Phone: 609-936-8807.
