The Asterisk on the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Lead-Free* Platinum Award list indicates that samples from only one particular batch of these toys tested lead free.  Other production runs or samples of the same products may contain lead.

We have not had the other toys on our website independently tested for lead content. For the future, we are requiring companies to provide us with documentation that their products have been tested by an independent lab and found to be free of surface and embedded lead, as well as phthalates.  

9. Dad, can you type this for me! 

If your child can't type invest in Mavis Teaches Typing ($15, Windows 95/98, $20 Macintosh, http://www.ShopMattel.com).  Some kids have also had good experiences getting a rough draft into the computer using dictation software like Dragon Naturally Speaking for Teens ($39.95, Windows 95/98, http://www.dragonsys.com/products/n aturallyspeaking/teens/index.html

10. Watch out for Porn, Gambling and Predators. 

Install a filter like Norton's Internet Security ($59.95, Windows 95/98, http://www.symantec.com) so your child's experience is not marred by exposure to unwanted sites.
