Important Advisory:

We are now requiring companies to provide us with documentation that their products have been tested by an independent lab for phthalates and lead.
Please click here for submission requirements for new products. However, as we are not a lab, we will not be independently verifying those results. Also, with the exception of the 2008 Platinum Toy Awards, toys submitted for review prior to January 2008 were not tested for lead.

Travel Toys for Summer 2003

Pretend On The Go

  Finding Nemo/Read-Along

( Disney $$9.98$ ) This cd/book set of this year's runaway hit would make a great take along choice for early school age kids who have enjoyed the movie. Revisiting a story you already know builds confidence and can often engage a reluctant reader. Kids can read along in the 72 page book that follow the story of Nemo's dad as he travels the Great Barrier Reef to rescue his son from a Dentist's fish tank in Sydney. Age: Early School Years. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award 2003

  Gameboy Advance SP

( Nintendo of America, Inc. $$99.99$ ) Our Gameboy experts gave high marks to the improved screen that has more light and bolder graphics. These games can become all-consuming, so be sure to set some ground rules. That said, they are great for road trips for older kids. You can also add a Game Link so that kids can play against each other. Age: Late School Years, Tweens, Teens. Phone: . Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award 2004

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

( Scholastic $$29.99$ ) The long-anticipated fifth book takes about a hundred pages to get going, but not to worry—that leaves almost 700 more pages to satisfy the most die-hard Harry Potter fan. We wish Jim Dale could read all books on tape. He doesn’t just read them, really, he performs them with such energy that our testers looked forward to getting back into the car to hear the next installment! For kids that find an 800+ page book a little daunting, here’s a great way to experience the world of Harry Potter. 26 hours & 30 minutes of listening. Age: late school years, ’tweens, teens. Still top rated, the first three audio books in the series. PLATINUM AWARD ’01. Age: Late School Years, Tweens, Teens, Adults. Phone: . Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award 2004

  Holes

( Listening Library $$25$28 for CD's ) Stanley Yelnats is convinced that his family’s curse is responsible for his landing in a juvenile detention center, Camp Green Lake. Once at the camp, Stanley and the other boys are forced to dig holes in the broiling sun, looking for something for the warden. A quirky story that weaves back and forth in time between Stanley’s time at the camp and the “cause” of the family curse, dating back to the time of his great, great grandfather. 10 & up. Age: Tweens, Teens, Adults. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award 2004

  Holes

( Disney $$22.98$ ) Stanley Yelnats is sure his family's long-standing "curse" is responsible for landing him in the boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake. Louis Sachar's best-selling novel was, according to our movie goers, faithful (a big consideration, they said) and just as they imagined it. The lizards and some fighting at the camp provide for some frightful moments for younger viewers, who also had some trouble following the plot which weaves back and forth in time. Most enjoyed by 10 & up crowd. Age: Late School Years, Tweens, Teens. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award 2004
