(Faber-Castell $59.99)

This handsome double-sided wooden tabletop easel has a magnetic white board on one side and chalkboard on the other side. They can use soft pastels or chalk on the chalkboard; they can draw directly with gel crayons on the white board side or on paper that’s hung with magnets. The smooth wooden case opens into an easel that also contains a generous supply of high quality Faber-Castell art supplies. It includes: art paper, 3 Gel Crayons, a paint palette with 12 watercolor paints, a paint brush, foam brush, magnets, 6 soft pastels, 6 oil pastels, 2 chalk sticks, a chalk eraser and instruction sheet. Ideal for apartment living where a standing easel might take up way too much space, this tabletop version closes and stores with everything inside. Note: show them how they need to be sure the case clicks shut or else the supplies will dump out. That said, this is a great way to bring home a variety of art supplies and a working surface that will be used again and again. 6 & up.

SNAP: This tabletop easel will fit on a wheel chair table or working surface so that children can have access to variety of art activities. It’s not a flimsy easel, but may still need some anchoring. We find Velcro style tape on the table surface and the bottom of the case will hold it in place with ease.
