Peaceable Kingdom the Very Hungry Caterpillar Snack Math Game

(Peaceable Kingdom $24.95) Fans of the classic Eric Carle book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar will enjoy this cooperative board game. The board has a creative design -- combining the base of the box with another cardboard piece to create the leaf that the caterpillar will travel on during the days of the week. The game play here is a memory game. Our suggestion (especially for younger players) is to leave the overturned pieces facing up. There are 24 tokens to match up which our testers found a bit overwhelming. Once we left the pieces so that they could see "snacks" the caterpillar eats, they were able to find matches in a shorter period of time. Instead of being frustrated by not finding a match, our preschoolers enjoyed working together -- looking over all the pieces they had turned over to find a match.

For every match you find (there are 12 snacks) the caterpillar piece moves along the top of the leaf. There are also sun tokens that are placed in the days of the week called out on the game board. Knowing that there are days of the week is a new concept for preschoolers.
