(Semper Smart Games $39.99)
A winning combination to help kids (and adults) understand the way the electoral college works, while they also improve their math facts, geography, and strategy skills. Depending on the age of players and math skills, use the two-sided board, with adding on one side or multiplying on the other. Players collect electoral votes from the color-coded map and soon learn the facts about smaller states with dense populations that may have more electoral votes than big states with fewer people. The game comes with dry erase markers that are used to mark the board during play. It’s a good one for family night games with a chance to talk about the civics part of the story— it's there but not explained. A great way to introduce some big ideas as the election season warms up and kids begin to hear about electoral votes, gerrymandering, and the numbers game that ultimately decides who wins the White House. Marked 8 and up, we think this is a better choice for tweens.
