Monopoly Empire Game

(Hasbro $19.99)

“Awesome and spectacular!” said our 9-year old tester. He liked that it’s “always a different game.” But in truth the big difference between this and classic Monopoly is that the game play is much faster and won’t require hours of endless play that you may recall. Now a round can be played in 15 minutes and players may actually want to play another round. It’s also not about real estate. Now, players are racing to build their empires by buying brands and billboards and towers. You collect rent based on your tower’s height. Winner is the first player to fill your tower with billboards. Our test family thought younger players would enjoy this. This game still has money (a newer banking version is on the horizon with no money—just credit cards, we guess.) Unlike classic Monopoly, there is less strategy involved. 8 & up
