Fisher-Price Think and Learn Rocktopus

(Fisher-Price $59.99)

An interactive sort of musical toy with 15 instruments sound pods that slip into the octopus’s arms. The sounds are pretty clear and recognizable as steel drums, maracas, piano, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, bass, xylophone, drum machine, keyboard, congas, drum kit, violin, cowbell, and guitar. Hit them and they are identified for pre-readers and their names are printed on each pod. There’s a button to make them play faster and another to play slower. There are several games that are more about identifying colors that light up or counting than making music. Kids can play the instruments by hitting the pods, but the “music” is sort of random. It’s mostly about learning the sounds and names of the instruments. For an interactive toy that makes more musical tunes, consider the Neurosmith Musical Blocks (Small World).
